The Final Week for Jesus - Wednesday

The Final Week – Wednesday

30 The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. 31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Mark 6:30-31

What did happen on the Wednesday in this final week? I’m not sure I can tell you. The scriptures give some clarity on what was happening on certain days of this week, but Wednesday seems to be a day that nothing was recorded.

Jerusalem would be very crowded as people arrived for the Passover and maybe Jesus knew it would be dangerous for him to go into the city? We seem to be living in such a time right now where people are afraid to go into the city, not because of a religious plot but because of a virus. For now we need to stay home.

In my mind I can picture Jesus saying, “come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest” and finding such a place in Bethany. I wonder if Jesus used this time with his disciples to rest, to grab a few hours of peace before the terrors of the next 48 hours, to ‘stay home’.

We live in such a time when we need to stay home and we need to find rest in doing this, which is not something most of us will be good at. So before the busyness of this weekend coming up, rest. Rest with Jesus as your companion, your teacher, and your friend.

Soon he will be your Saviour.
